We sprung forward one hour this morning, and to no one’s surprise at all, the future doesn’t look much different, just darker. This has to be one of the dumbest things we still do each year. Last week, Beanie and I were out walking every day before work, saying hi to the rest of the neighbor dogs before I had to leave for work. Now it’ll be another month or so before we can safely take those morning walks again. Good thing I’ll have an hour more of daylight at my…paralegal job.
Daylight savings is just a reminder of how the U.S. loves to hang on to policy choices that no longer serve the majority of us. Other notable holdovers include the Electoral College and a Supreme Court with only nine Justices. 15,000 U.S. farms declared bankruptcy last year, but we’re all going to keep springing forward and falling back to stay in line with an agricultural calendar that hasn’t been relevant since I was a child. Good times.
This blog serves as a place for me to share my thoughts and feelings, but I’ve got to tell y’all, I’m tried of my thoughts and feelings these days. How many days can I wake up and feel both sad and furious? All of them, apparently. I’m prone to deep depressions, and world events are conspiring to keep me in this sad, furious little cycle. This means I have to really work to find ways not to succomb to my deepest Eyore tendencies.
Good things are happening, you just have to pay attention. For example, every azalea in the city of Mobile is blooming right now, and it’s beautiful. There are these brilliant splashes of color everywhere. The trees are also budding, which means that there will be magnolias soon!
Two weeks ago, B. and I went and met our new nephew. He’s a chill little guy wo slept basically the entire time we were there. Here’s a picture of us with my mom, who was visiting from out of town:
My older nephew, IV, was thrilled by the Tonka trucks that B. picked out for him. He got a dump truck and a fire truck, and apparently loves them so much that we got this picture a couple of days after our trip:
