It's been a bad week to be in my general vicinity, y'all. I have been in all of the moods (none of them particularly pleasant), and my patience has been non-existent. Old me probably would have apologized profusely to everyone for this, but perimenopausal me? The best I can do is an impression of my narcissistic ex (R.I.P.):
I'm sorry if your feelings were hurt.
Yeah, I'm not too sorry about that, either. Because honestly, I really, really need everyone to step up and do better. By everyone I mean:
- The woman in the parking garage at work who never looks in any direction before attempting to back into a parking spot. That's cool. I love that I got to have a near-death experience on my way into the office on Wednesday morning.
- Every dude in a white damn pickup truck who doesn't feel like the rules of the road apply to them. Y'all can't act right, which just means I need to slow down even more as you ride my bumper in a no-passing zone.
- The lady in the Tahoe in the Rouses parking lot who decided to park so close to my door that I had to enter the car from the passenger side. You're lucky I didn't have a pen, or you'd have received an absolutely scathing note on your windshield.
- Opposing counsel who feels that the only schedule that could ever matter is her own. Do you want to talk to these people or not? This is when they're available.
- The manufacturers of my car battery, which died Friday, exactly one month and 26 days after the 3 year warranty expired. Your timing is so impeccable that the guy at O'Reilly Auto Parts visibly cringed when he looked at the receipt to get the part number for my new battery.
- Every single man out on the internet saying "not all men" in relation to the Cornell rape case. Correct. Not all men. But our president, two Supreme Court Justices, all the guys in the Epstein files, and every single guy who was a member of that Cornell group chat that decided to do nothing when receiving an invitation to a gang rape. All those men, to start. And all the men who feel like it's cool to excuse the appalling behavior of their fellow men.
This whole week has had real "the beatings will continue until morale improves" vibes, and I hate it. Let's hope that we can turn over a new leaf or something in the week to come, because I might actually disintegrate from sheer anger otherwise.
